Tor (“The Onion Router”) browser is an open-sourced, modified version of Firefox. It comes with preinstalled privacy add-ons and obfuscates your traffic by bouncing it through a network of relay nodes around the world.
Tor is not a replacement for a VPN for two reasons:
- It doesn’t encrypt traffic
- It significantly slows down traffic and cannot be used for file sharing or streaming
However, Tor provides an additional layer of anonymity when it’s needed.
